Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef base protein, rich in iron and B vitamins
  • 1 onion diced, adds sweetness
  • 2 cloves garlic minced, aromatic flavor
  • 1 small head cabbage chopped, main veggie
  • 14 oz can diced tomatoes adds moisture and flavor
  • 1 tsp paprika seasoning warmth
  • 1 tsp Italian herbs boosts flavor with herbs
  • salt & black pepper to taste
  • 1.5 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella) topping, melty texture
  • 1 tbsp olive oil for cooking

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened.
  2. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 6–7 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
  4. Stir in chopped cabbage and cook for 5 minutes, until slightly wilted.
  5. Add diced tomatoes, paprika, Italian herbs, salt, and pepper. Stir, cover, and let simmer for 10 minutes until the cabbage is tender.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly on top. Cover skillet for 2–3 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve hot, straight from the skillet.

Notes

Make it lighter by swapping beef for ground turkey or chicken. Spice it up with red pepper flakes or jalapeños.
