Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 small white onions sliced into ¼-inch rings
  • 7 oz parmesan cheese shredded, finely shredded works best
Seasoning & Oil
  • 1/2 tbsp olive oil for brushing onion rings
  • salt to taste
  • garlic powder to taste
  • paprika to taste, optional smoky flavor
Serving
  • lazy tzatziki or preferred dip for serving

Equipment

  • 12×17-inch rimmed baking tray
  • Parchment paper
  • Basting brush
  • Oven

Method

  1. Step 1: Prep the Oven and Pan
Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a 12×17-inch rimmed baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Step 2: Layer the Cheese
Sprinkle shredded parmesan in a thin, even layer over the parchment, covering most of the surface.
  3. Step 3: Place the Onion Rings
Arrange onion slices on top of the cheese in a single, non-overlapping layer, spaced slightly apart.
  4. Step 4: Add Oil and Seasoning
Brush the tops lightly with olive oil, then season with salt, garlic powder, and paprika.
  5. Step 5: Bake Until Crispy
Bake 18–20 minutes or until cheese is deep golden and onions are soft with caramelized edges.
  6. Step 6: Cool and Serve
Let cool for 5–10 minutes to crisp up. Serve with tzatziki or your favorite dip.

Notes

For best texture, use finely shredded parmesan (not powder). You can also make these in an air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes. Try seasoning with Italian herbs or chili flakes for variety.
